Four Generations of Fall Fun at Siegel's Cottonwood Farm

Four Generations Keep Fall Fun for All Going at Siegel’s Farm

Pulling into the parking lot at Siegel’s Farm, one immediately feels like a kid again, and in a hurry to run, play, pet, and explore.

With almost 110 years as a working family farm, continued by four generations of one family, it’s practically in your backyard.

Named for the cottonwood trees just at the edge of the farm, Frank and Gertrude Siegel purchased land in Lockport, IL to set up a farm in 1909 to raise their family. Three generations later, their grandson, Paul, has the reins along with his wife Susan and has grown Siegel’s Cottonwood Farm (www.ourpumpkinfarm.com) into one of the top attractions in Chicagoland, with the help of, naturally, the next – fourth – generation of Siegels. Today, 109 years later, Siegel’s Cottonwood Farm offers a full day of activities, fun, games, food and more for families and kids of every age.

One of the main attractions are the Farm’s two themed corn mazes. This fall, the Siegel’s cut their 15-acre corn maze to honor Superman's 80th Anniversary, and their smaller maze Spookley the Square Pumpkin; an anti-bullying message.

Consistently named one of the top pumpkin patches and fall festivals in the U.S., the farm's famous Pumpkin Fest -- 'Affordable Fun on the Farm' -- has opened it's gates and is open daily 10am to 6pm and runs through October 31. Every day, families can enjoy more than 30 attractions and activities included in the price of admission, such as five play areas, u-pick pumpkin field, train and hayrack rides, zip lines, feeding farm animals, Siegel's Sports Zone, Farmer Frank's Haunted Barn, Giant Mountain Slide, Duck Races, and much, much more. With loads of meals and treats to eat, including Grandpa's Secret Recipe Kettle Corn and freshly made apple cider donuts, Siegel's Cottonwood Farm is the perfect day-long family outing. They also have Beer and Wine served on the weekends for the Moms, Dads, Grandmas and Grandpas to enjoy too!

The farm regularly hosts school groups with an emphasis on teaching children about where their food comes from, what life is like on the farm, the importance of bees, and about the animals on the farm.
